WOW!!! God is absolutely amazing.
Last Tuesday had to be one of the most exciting days ever.
My ministry team arrived in Cabrini Green (one of the largest housing projects in Chicago) about an hour early so we decided to walk around the neighborhood in hopes of ministering or sharing the gospel with individuals in the area.
Me and Sarah (a staff member) were walking together and saw two men sitting in a park area, so i asked how she felt about going over to them and talking to them. She was like "yeh, sure, let's go." So we crossed the street and walked right up to two men who definitely were not clean and were probably homeless. We introduced ourselves and their names were Edward and Earl.
I jumped right in to asking them if it was ok if i asked them some spiritual type questions. They agreed and the first question i asked was what they thought happened after death. Edward said, "well, i don't know, i've never really thought about it. i guess it's just all up here (and pointed to his head)." So i questioned if he thought there was a higher power or a heaven or hell, and he was like..well..yeh, i think there is, but i haven't thought about it.
I asked a few more questions and the last one was what his desire was to know God personally on a scale of 1-10. (oh, p.s. these questions are from a survey thing Campus Crusade uses at colleges, but i was just asking from memory or whatever God led me too). Amazingly, Edward said a 10! So i was like, well, i can tell you how you can do that, would you like me to explain it to you? and he said SURE!
So i sat next to him and told him how much God loved him, so much that Christ came to this earth to die so that we could spend eternity with him. That's how much God wants us to have a relationship with Him. Both men kept telling me how many bad things and bad thoughts they had, and they just couldn't understand how Jesus could take that away, how they could just stop having those thoughts all of a sudden. Sarah then told them of how it would be a slow process, but they would eventually only have a desire to love and serve our God and Saviour.
Gosh!...well, i have to go,...this is a to be continued blog :) Pray for Edward and Earl. and i'll finish this awesome story soon
